News from the Professional Photographers of America

The results of the 2010 International Photographic Competition, sponsored by the Professional Photographers of America, have been announced.
I am honored that 2 of my prints received Merits and will be included in the 2011 PPA International Photographic Exhibition. This exhibit will be displayed next January in San Antonio, Texas during the Imaging 2011 Convention.

Who Sent in the Clowns?

I became a member of PPA after having been a member of my local affiliate, the Finger Lakes Section of PPSNSY and serving as an Officer. Becoming a member of the local was one of the best things I've done. It allows me opportunities to further my education in professional photography and learn from amazing photographers from all over the world. This keeps me current on what clients are looking for and allows me to offer the best in photography. I appreciate all those who have helped me further my career, especially my great friends and colleagues in Finger Lakes!

A Visit to Thornhill

In a small magical village just outside of Ithaca the most amazing event took place last Wednesday.  I, along with my fellow photographers from the Finger Lakes Section of PPSNYS, www.flppsny.com were treated to an afternoon of fantasy with a group of Live Action Role Players who meet at the village of Thornhill on the family farm of my friend and colleague, Monroe Payne.

What a show they put on for us!
With the threat of storms arriving, we headed off from the village into the enchanted woods to watch the story unfold.

Knights, ogres, brave armed women, elves and witches, even the undead were there to tell us their story, do battle  and lead us to safety.
We had such a great time and really appreciate all the effort these wonderful players went to so we could enjoy a wonderful new experience.

When the story was told, we returned to the village where the pub was opened and the fire made ready for cooking the beast. We shared conversation and a great meal and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
Thank you Monroe and Janet for your hospitality and thanks to all who brought the story to life and let us enter your world for a day.

Mary Kay Makeover Event

When I first did makeover portraits for Mary Kay Director Judy Dickinson in February, my daughter Morgan came along to help me. Since then she has begun her very own Mary Kay Consulting business in Judy's group. She and I are having a wonderful time talking to women about skin care and beauty products, both of which makes my job as photographer, much easier.

I had the privilege of participating in another event with Judy, several Mary Kay consultants and guests at the end of May. Consultants and guests were invited to the studio Mary Kay studio in Rochester, NY.

On this evening four beautiful, brave women allowed me to photograph them after removing their original makeup for a "before" photo. Then they were treated to a new look, compliments of Mary Kay, and a Mini Portrait Session compliments of me!

We all had a great time and the results speak for themselves. If you click on each portrait, you will see the larger version. Each participant will receive a gift portrait of their new look and the consultants will receive before and after photographs for their portfolios.

In this era, when women are pushed to the limits with their time and expected to "do it all" it's most difficult to find time for yourself. We'll be holding another Makeover Night in September.
