Turtle Hill Festival

Each year for the past 25 years, I have had the privilege of attending the Golden Link Folk Singing Society's Turtle Hill Festival. This year the organization is celebrating it's 40th Anniversary, so this Festival was extra special.

I helped out in the merchandise tent on Friday night which is a wonderful way to see what music is on each of the CD's the musicians offer for sale. It also gives me the opportunity to catch up with friends who stop by to say hello.

I spent the rest of the weekend enjoying good music and good company. On Sunday, I took some photographs of the final concert and I finally had time to put together this slide show with some highlights.

It was a great weekend! Thanks to the Board and all those who worked so hard to make this happen.

Portraits in the Park

You wouldn't know it from the gorgeous, warm weather today, but it's FALL!
That means it's time to hold our 9th Annual Portraits in the Park event. This year we've selected the park right around the corner from our studio in Honeoye Falls. It's a beautiful little park with lots of leaves that should be turning color nicely by the time we get there!

We're looking forward to creating a beautiful portrait for YOUR family!

World Wide Photo Walk on October 1

I'm excited to be part of this great event and hope you will consider joining me! You don't need any experience or a fancy camera. A point and shoot is fine!

We'll be wandering the beautiful, historic village of Honeoye Falls to create images. You'll upload them to a website where they are entered into the competition. There are prizes too!

I'll be on hand to offer advice and tips as we find architecture, flowers, waterfalls, winding creeks and other interesting things to photograph.

For more information on MY walk and to register click here!

Here's a little more about the World Wide Photo Walk concept!

Where Should We Go?

It was time to check out some more interesting spots to use for sessions. Since my daughter  also needed some photographs for her fun blog, The Treasure Trove, we headed out together to walk around the Village of Honeoye Falls near the Studio.

We found so many great places! There is interesting architecture, beautiful little parks, and cool spots with great light. We didn't have time to even get to all of them! That leaves more adventures for the next walk. And, in addition to the locations we used today, there is the beautiful waterfall and creek that I highlighted in a previous post.

You can see more from this walk on her blog!

I'm looking forward to all the upcoming Sessions! It's going to be hard to choose a spot!

Lazy Summer Days

I've been busy having so much Summer Fun that I've neglected the blog!

It's been a wonderful Summer here in Western New York and I am definitely taking full advantage of it.
We held the Grand Opening celebration for our new STUDIO/GALLERY in Honeoye Falls and had a great time greeting friends - old and new! Pat Carey, friend and musician, shared her beautiful music with us while we enjoyed wine and snacks. There was great conversation and lots of fun. We may just have to find a reason to host another party!

We were having such a great time that we never asked anyone to take good photographs or video. We only have a few iphone photos to share!

Thanks to all who joined us! We had a great time! To those who couldn't make it, please stop in to visit soon.

Fun Event at the New Location

For those who've been reading about what goes on with DeLapa Photography since we started this blog, you know that we specialize in location photography. There have been some special events that's we've been unable to photograph due to the lack of indoor space.

That's all changing as of this month!!

We've just opened a second location at 30 East Street in Honeoye Falls, NY to give us more opportunities to offer Studio Portraits, Special Events and Limited Edition Specials!

Our first event in the new location will be CAP and GOWN night for the 2011 Graduates of the Honeoye Falls/Lima School!

We invite all Class of 2011 Seniors to stop in! We're looking forward to meeting you and hope you'll enjoy making silly faces for us. See you on Friday!

*If you are under 18, you will need a parent to sign a release for you to have images posted on facebook.

Where HAVE I been?

I'm not really sure what has been keeping me from writing! Time just passes so quickly!

As a reminder of how life happens fast, I recently enjoyed taking photographs of my Granddaughter and her friends before they attended their Junior Prom! It was so much fun to be part of the excitement!

Waiting for Spring

Even though the calendar says it's Spring, we often continue to endure cold and snow into April and sometimes even May. ( no! )

Today it's beautiful and sunny but still cold here along the lake shore. Just seeing the sun streaming in through the windows and watching the migration of the birds over the lake lifts the spirits.

With Spring comes "Daffodil Days"

and, before you know it, our "Day at the Beach".

We specialize in location portraiture and these are just some of the wonderful areas we use for our portraits. You can use your own surroundings or a special spot that has meaning for you and your family, to create a portrait unlike any other.

Whether the session includes the whole family

or just the newest member

WE are the location portrait specialist for you!

We're really looking forward to a busy season and all the happy faces of those we'll photograph. Scroll down to the bottom of this post and sign up for our newsletter. You'll receive notices for our Limited Edition Sessions and a variety of special offers!

Springtime on Lake Ontario

I'm posting a couple of snapshots (don't critique these please) to let my husband, who is in the Caribbean somewhere, know what beautiful Spring weather we're having. He has no access to facebook but can read my blog!
If he's lucky, this will all be over before he returns. I'm definitely ready for WARM weather!
It's gotten worse since I uploaded this!

I have to go retrieve the other garbage can and take the snow shovel out of the garage!

P.S. I have to remind myself that our area gets snow right through May! My husband and I met during one of the largest snowstorms the area had seen at that time and that was on April 5th!
Then, there was one mid May weekend where I photographed a wedding party in Highland Park on Saturday with 60º temps and my colleague then photographed a wedding ceremony the very next day at the same location, in a snowstorm, with temps in the 20's.
The fun never ends!!

Perigee Moonrise

I thought I would go out last night just to breathe in the crisp air and experience the beautiful moonrise. I don't really have the proper camera equipment to capture a moon the way it should be photographed. ( a Celestron lens would be nice, haha )

As the time for the moon to rise came closer, I found myself gathering my camera and tripod to take something just as a memory. As it turns out, I have family and friends who weren't able to view this awesome event due to cloud cover so I'm really glad I was able to get something to share.

I'm sure there will be perfect, expert images all over the internet tomorrow, but for now, I'm happy that I've got these.

"A Photographer's Path" ~ High Falls Art Gallery

You are cordially invited to the upcoming reception for the 14th annual photography show, "A Photographer’s Path". The exhibit officially opens at the High Falls Art Gallery, Center at High Falls, Rochester, NY on Sunday, March 20 from 3-6 and features music by Reilly Taylor-Cook and Hershel Mikel Jazz Duo. The reception is free to the public with refreshments available.

More than a hundred photographers are represented, and 40+ have been honored with an image in the jurors choice selections.

The many submissions by artists, show the breadth of artistic perspective behind the lens. You will see landscapes, cityscapes, even underwater-scapes. There are abstracts, architectural, urban, portrait, still life, floral. Interested in photo process? See HDR, Photoshop, gelatin silver, Holga, salt-print and more.

Three of my images were submitted for exhibit but, as of yet, I've not heard which will hang. At least one will be included in the show. It will be a surprise for all of us!

If you can't make the opening, have you ever thought of meeting friends at the Gallery for a brown bag lunch or a cup of coffee? A walk through followed by dinner or drinks next door? There is always a table set in the gallery with chairs for lunchtime visits. AND you can select coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or soda in the gift shop.

There is NO CHARGE for parking this Sunday in High Falls Ramp Garage.

Master of Photography

Wow... that's pretty awesome and it's going to be difficult to live up to that title on a daily basis.

After many years of participation in the PPA degree program, I finally achieved enough Exhibition and Service Merits to receive this honor during the 2011 PPA Imaging Conference in San Antonio, TX.

I wasn't able to attend the ceremony, so my medallion and certificate were mailed to me in this very creative package.

My business has changed so much over the years, having first concentrated on Weddings, then moving to include Heirloom Portraits and adding Photographic Art along the way. I have worked through many changes in our industry during this period. The medallion will be worn as I work to help educate those who are beginning their journey in the photographic industry.

It's a whole different business from the one I started in over 30 years ago and it's been quite a trip. I've learned so much of what I know through my association with Finger Lakes/PPSNYS and would never have achieved this honor if I'd not been a member. Thanks to all my wonderful colleagues and friends for your help and companionship along the way and to my husband who has been my number one fan and a sounding board throughout the journey.
Thank you PPA for granting this honor.

WOW ~ It's a New Year ...

and I haven't posted in weeks!
There was so much going on and so, so many photographs being taken that I was overwhelmed. I couldn't think of what to post first, so I just didn't post anything.

Now that I've got my brain a little more under control, I'll start by posting this slideshow from the Finger Lakes/PPSNYS Christmas Party. It was held the week before Christmas and members and their families came to share a little holiday cheer.
It was also the birthday of one of our favorite members, Mark Griffin so Mariann surprised him with a cake! What fun to see the look on his face.

Dinner at Abigail's was great and we had fun opening (and stealing) gifts. I always enjoy gatherings with my Finger Lakes friends and this one was no exception!
